American Airlines & US Airways to merge programs within 30 days

Via an email I received as both a member of American Airlines AAdvantage and US Airways Dividend Miles the programs are due to merge sometime in April and if you haven’t already merged your two accounts, you should be doing do by the 20th March.

So what does this all mean? Any miles you have in either account will be merged into the AAdvantage account. If you were smart enough to buy miles in the last couple of promos you will have quite a nice balance of miles to play with once the merger is completed.

AAdvantage has a lot of benefits including the ability to book one way awards (US Airways have also allowed this however they charge you the same amount of miles that a return will cost). It will be interesting to see what sort of program changes as well as the new award charts will be once the merger has been completed.

The email states as follows
