Hotel Review: Grand Hyatt Melbourne

Booked a last minute stay with a package deal at Grand Hyatt Melbourne.

Many years ago this WAS the hotel to stay in, and certainly held all the big events before Crown came along.
With a 200 mill renovation finished well over 18 months ago I was curious to see how it had changed.

Bell boy is efficient and service good. Took a little too long to bring the car back however.
Check in is slow and painful. As a premium Hyatt client, they do have all details on file and shouldn’t have to still go through the mandatory preferences with paper, room type etc.

The room itself was TINY and it was a corner King room. Furniture and bedding, though updated is still very 80’s to me and does not come close to the crisp cleanliness or fresh lines that the Westin or Metropol has.

Room service was FANTASTIC! Really great quality food and presentation (fish, steak, potato puree and desserts)
Bathroom was full of marble…tiny shower and normal bath.
Room was missing its coffee machine and had no sugar…two basic things that you expect (with what is promised for a 5 star hotel)
The noise between the walls and on the corridor was horrible. Walls are paper thin, you hear everything!

For the price paid there is no way I would stay again due to size of room, noise at night and the slow check in.
Location is good (if you exit via the Collins St size…steep hill if you walk out the Russell St side)


Rating: 3 Just not luxe enough!
