Hotel Review: Crown Metropol Melbourne

Have stayed in the following rooms at Metropol since it opened

Luxe King Room: King Bed, ottoman, bathroom with shower only, desk, small table and chair, usual extra amenities, Level 10 facing a car park, One bay window

R28 Studio: Corner Room, King Bed, Larger size room than Luxe, desk, ottoman, shower only in the bathroom. Level 18

The Loft: Level 18 Separate lounge with corner couch, table and 4 chairs, Bay windows all around, Sep bedroom and bathroom. Bathroom has spa and shower
3 Tvs (spa, lounge, bed)

The Metropol is VERY well priced and obviously a lot fresher and newer than the Promenade. It offers more in their rooms than Promenade does, but service is the real issues.

Over the 3 stays, the following occurred
Waited an hour for car to be brought up bell desk (very slow esp in mornings)
Luggage lost and brought to another room
Got stuck in the lift
Housekeeping walked straight in, though the do not disturb sign was on
Forgot to bring extra towels when called

The GOOD BITS

The rooms are decorated with style, fresh, clean and modern linen. Comfy pillows and mood lighting. Great large TV’s, comfy ottomans, and functional bathroom. The spa in The Loft is just amazing
Lifts are always quick and never full
Quiet corridors and no noise from adjacent rooms
Isika Day Spa, great atmosphere and treatments, staff friendly. The pool is amazing but overcrowded all the time
Maze: Dined there for both dinner and breakfast on numerous occasions. Food great quality and very good prices.
Room service is also from Maze and is fantastic quality and prices.

The BAD BITS
Service is always slow and they forget the most basic of tasks (newspaper one day, not there the next day) Bell desk and the car situation is a joke, Check in is SLOW (only brought in express check out forms this 3rd stay)
Housekeeping comes at odd hours and they forget to replenish things
Staff are generally very aloof and look like they are stressed all the time
Room swipe cards sometimes don’t work after 24 hours so you have to get another
Toiletries are generic crown brand, however DO smell more aromatherapy based than the Towers or Promenade ones.

THE OK BITS
Location is obviously the casino. There is new arcade of retailers near Metropol as well as other stores with the complex itself. Brands are usually higher end.
Plenty of food options to suit all tastes and budgets. Food court on weekends is unbearable. It is $10 cab ride to the Bourke St Mall if you don’t want to walk.
Casino is open 24 hours and is a hub of activity even on weeknights.
No Free Wifi anywhere at Crown. Metropol charge $22 for 24 hours which was a slow connection and should be much much cheaper.

If you get a good deal to stay here, then do. The rooms themselves do make up for the mishaps which I am sure they will get right in time.
Go The Loft. It is truly a fantastic room if you can afford it, but the other room types are also great for a couple.

Rating: 4 Still some improvements service wise to fix
