Ok, so people may differ with this one. Stamford go from 5 to 4 stars depending on which guide you look at…personally I do think it is 5 Stars as it does offer everything that it’s neighbours in the city do.
I have stayed here around 6 times of the last few years all in varying room types. Their rooms have come down a lot lately and the last stay was only $170 for a corner suite which was incredible (in both price and room!)
This hotel has fond memories for me, as it’s where we stayed on our wedding night.
As we booked the experience package on that first stay 8 years ago, they were fantastic to us during check in (if you’re not nice to someone wearing a wedding dress there is a problem)
We had the Heritage Suite, and there was chocolates and strawberries waiting, Moet and Chandon on ice, music playing, and roses petals leading up the staircase (split level suite) and on the bed and in bathtub.
With Bvlgari amenities (which are devine), fluffy pillows and 2 TV’s in the suite, it was one of those stays I’ll remember! Don’t want to bore anyone with the details!!!
So from this first stay…to the more recent one….
Check in: Drove up to the hotel, Had to go inside to ask Concierge what to do with the car. Cold and wet Melbourne Night. Concierge were friendly.
Went straight up to the desk. Was checked in by a delightful trainee called Emily who went over and beyond to make sure as repeat guests that we were happy with the room type we were getting and also gave us a preference on which tower we wanted to be in.
For the record, we were in the Main Tower which has a fantastic quick glass lift that is in the middle of the atrium.
Room: Executive Suite. In the corner of the 6th floor with no other rooms close by (except the elevator which you couldn’t hear at all)
The room was spacious and sparking clean. Great new furnishings since our last visit. Large LCD TV in the lounge area, dining table, kitchenette with plunger waiting with coffee, stereo, 2 seater couch and 2 chairs, coffee table with magazines.
Bedroom had sliding doors to separate the lounge but you could still hear the TV.
Clean linen and comfy pillows. Smaller LCD TV opposite bed.
Ottoman against the window with a fantastic long view of the city buildings.
Bathroom had sink, Aveda toiletries, Deep Bath Spa, Wardrobe with pillows, blanket, slippers and bathrobes.
Room Service: Lots of choice and reasonable prices. We ordered the Calamari, Burger and Sticky Date Pudding. Calamari Serving was small, Burger was good, but Sticky Date was cold and we prefer it warm.
The room service staff member was very friendly and offered to swap any food if it wasn’t to our liking.
Slept ok…bed a little hard but that’s a personal thing. No outside noise at all, which on a Friday night was fantastic.
Priority check out invoice slipped under the door overnight. I would have used it if they had not of made the mistake of charging double for the room! Small mistake which was fixed swiftly by the clerk.
All in all…a fab stay at this hotel and got a fantastic rate which is even better.
For Tourists…the location of this hotel is really good. 2 min walk from hotel and you are on Swanston Street and literally in the hub of everything. The bonus of the kitchenette would be fantastic for anyone staying here for more than a couple of days.
For Locals…a great hotel to stay in if you don’t want to pay a fortune for a tiny room in a super deluxe hotel. The rooms here are spacious (whatever the room type)
Rating: Wedding Night Suite: 4 1/2 Stars (giving me a garbage bag to put my wedding dress in was a little tacky for a 5 star)
Other stays: 3 1/2 Stars
